This one is from a different perspective. I know the night scene is
currently horrible, but I'm trying to get just the right feel. I've got
one other alternate view I'll post, if not this afternoon then tomorrow.

Oh yeah, I know about the purple in the jar - I just can't figure it
out. The flower is made of several translucent objects, and the stem is
media-filled, but I'm not sure which one of those is the problem...

I love the mood of this one (though clearly it has a bit to go).

I figured it out, it was the viewing angle. Since the stem is
scattering the green light, what's left (in the shadow, which is what
you see) is purple light.

Here's the other alternate. Currently, I'm thinking I'll go with this
one, but I'd like to hear other people's thoughts.
(Remember, I'm just talking about the viewing angle, and not the
finished render).

In both of them, I'd like to see the camera brought closer and the viewing
angle increased, to get the same image with more of a perspective effect.
Overall, I like the first one better - the view is more interesting IMO -
except that the radiator (thought it was a chair) and table poking into the
bottom part of the image confuses my eyes a little. They feel cramped in
there.
As far as lighting goes, I prefer the first, but I think the harsh edges on
the moon and jar need to be softened. The light from outside falling on the
red brick confuses me; if the moon is visible, the light must be coming from
something else - a street light, perhaps, but it doesn't make sense that
it's coming from below.

You are on the second or third floor, so, you are higher than the street lamps.

Hmm... I'd pulled the camera out much further than normal, and used a
smaller viewing angle (15'), as I've noticed this gives a better
impression of size when you're close up to an object. However, the
camera is no longer that close to the object, so I'll have to try that out.

Wait, do you mean the previous WIPs, or the first alternate (the night
scene)?

I know, and right now I'm just trying out alternate angles before I fix
anything like that.

Well, you're a few stories up, though I could put it on the ground floor
and throw some trees outside...

First alternate, night scene.

Ah. Forgot about cities =)

I can agree with that idea, partly anyway. I think it could probably go
either way, since a distant vantage point might also be good for effect but
in a different kind of way. But I do like the suggestion of a closer
macro-like view. Background (and foreground) could mostly be out-of-focus
that way, and therefore less important to detail as much as the jar area
itself. The farther vantage point doesn't fare as well for camera blur
unless binoculars or telescope were being used.
Had you already thought of putting a bug or bee on the outside of that jar,
as though it were wanting to get to the flower? That occured to me after
seeing the jar nearby in that nighttime picture.
Concerning that purple shadow... couldn't media absorption be added to
counteract that? Must be media you're using there because filtered color
would be the same green color. Wouldn't you think I would know for sure
without asking or trying it myself?! I just don't trust my memory about it!
;)
