Indeed, this has been done before, but for a little story I have in my mind,
I wanted to test a couple of tricks in Moray. The result is rather nice I
believe, so I thought I would share.

Not the colours I would have chosen, but still. ;-)

I wonder how long it will be before somebody animates this stuff? :-P

   The shadow does not match the figure too well.
   Perhaps you should create a fake shadow which at least seems to
match the figure?

True for the third branch of the triangle... There is already one fake
shadow present here. The third one is not easy, but feasible, yes.

Hmm... not easy because you have to align correctly two aspects of the
triangle at the same time in reference to the camera: The alignment of the
branches, and the cutting plane that creates the illusion. I won't try that!
To complicated for my shaky capabilities :-)

If you animate it, the parallex will show how far each point *really* is 
from the camera. I'd like to see somebody pull _that_ off without 
breaking the illusion. ;-)

Yes indeed, and I think you will have to adapt the "thickness" of the limbs
continuously too...

Hmm... looks familiar[*]

As Warp mentioned, the shadows are a bit strange, but I don't know if you
can have realistic shadows for an impossible object. Anyway it seems you're
using a perspective camera, and that's a good thing.

Does indeed. A well done illusion. I wonder of the shadow of the short 
horizontal piece could actually be moved away at the right side? The other 
half of its illusion would put it into the air instead of being flat against 
the tabletop. I'm probably not thinking of a good alternate placement for 
that shadow though. It looks fine to me now.
