I also played with Inkscape's PoV-Ray export feature.
Here's a nice debian logo render.
The background pattern is made by tracing a disc.

I dig the texture of "debian". It looks like glassy carbon crystals used in
mass-spec TC/EA's...it looks cool, I love to just look at that stuff.

Yeah, I like the texture a lot too. With a little tweaking, this looks like
a good CD label.

Thank you both.
Unfortunately the image suffered a from rescaling an jpg compression.
I'll put a better version online later somwhere else (Well this is a
quite vague statement :-)).
