Here's the latest installment. Many of the changes are rather subtle. For
one, the sofa and table are now properly placed, a top-view revealed that
they were actually half a meter away from the wall and each other, far too
much space. I also had to move them more towards the rectangular window as
to keep them in the image.

I'm yet undecided what to put on the table aside of the piece of cloth which
is already there. My initial idea was a bottle of wine and some glasses,
which is why I moved the sun: thus, I get the possibility of photons from
the glass objects. Had to work a lot lately, which is why I didn't get any
further modelling aside of the sofa-update done.

I've also enlargened the window and positioned the lamp properly. The
arealight on the sun is too large for my taste and will be changed in future
versions. There are some issues with the light-covers on the lamp, I'll be
experimenting with some subsurface-scattered parts. Maybe I need to find
some object for research on that. :-)

Anyways, another possible major change is the backdrop, once a bottle of
wine is in place, I think the mood would be more appropriate with a sunset
and some sunset-orangish light. Last but not least, I'm pondering if I
should update my Glare-Macros and add some colored soft glow around
highlights and bright parts...

Anyways, enough ranting. Tell me what you think! :-)

Since you asked for opinions (and everybody's got one) here's mine:

I absolutely love the image the way it stands. If you were to add
anything to this one I would suggest an easel and some paint brushes,
tubes, etc. Or maybe some binoculars. Something that lets us know the
people who have that view appreciate it as much as the rest of us (I
would love to have that view :-)

As for the wine/sunset picture, I look forward to it... but please
consider branching your source so the mountain view in the bright
sunshine has a future.

Amazing work!

Very nice!

One thing that disturbs me is the round window ending so close over the
sofa. It looks like the sofa is very very close to the wall - too close
for my taste :)
About the stuff to put on the table: If you're not going for a special
theme, the "standard" thing would be some magazines and a bowl of
fruits, but I must say I like your wine/sunset-idea better. Don't know
about the glares, though, perhaps if they're really subtle.

Greetings,
Florian

Nice :) I think I want to sit on the couch and take in the view. The
room almost reminds me of a waiting room, or perhaps a sitting room at a
lodge in the mountains.

I think someone mentioned this before, but is that backdrop from a
previous rendering of yours?

Oh. on second glance, some constructive criticism:

Just my opinion, do what you will with it: The table seems a bit tall,
perhaps shorten it a bit (5-10cm?)

Oh, I'd be happy if I could create such realistic backdrops! No, it's a
photo. This semester I had a course on Computer Graphics and all kinds of
stuff on how to merge virtual objects and reality, and I've learned that,
depending on what you want to achieve, real life is just plain useful! ;-) I
wanted to create a room with a nice lighting, the backdrop was more or less
exchangeable, so I went for a photo of mine.

Tim

Hm, I'll have to test it. In our living room, we have a similiar sofa
(though only the black leather is actually the thing that makes them
similiar), and the table in front of it, though not made of glass (stone,
actually) is just the same height as the sitting height. I'll have a try and
see if it fits, but if it doesn't show up in the next image, I didn't like
it better than the current height. :-)

Tim

I've raised the window somewhat, which gives a better impression. As for the
proximity to the wall: I've double-checked, and it's not really touching the
wall, but I've moved it a few centimeters off, just so that you feel
comfortable. :-)

So far, the radiosity did a fine job of creating smooth glows around bright
areas pretty good by itself. I'm considering the glares for specular
highlights and such, but I'm not too sure about it yet. The image is pretty
smooth and nice as it is, and I personally don't like "overglowed-smoothed"
images. It often feels like losing detail to me.

Tim

I was thinking about doing a variations of this image with different
backdrops and lightings.

I'm also considering to release the room (without the furniture) to see if
someone else wants to come up with a way to populate the room. Might be
interesting to see what others come up with.

Tim
