I've not entered anything in IRTC before, and I'm not sure that I'm
really ready to. However this is where I'm heading. The image isn't a
'minimalist' image, but a trophy to minimalism as defined by the
philosopher de Groot.

Please tell me what you think .. it's 100% csg as I've not moved on to
meshes and their friends :)

Cheers!

If the judges of IRTC appreciate visual puns, this scene should be fine. It
gave me a giggle, but I've always been a sucker for a good sight-gag. :)

I like it, but I think it does have room for improvement. I don't really
like the abrupt change of slope on the brush handle. Are you using a pair
of rounded cones? Have you tried a simple SOR or lathe instead?

The hairs at the brush tip look ok, but then they merge into a solid black
blob. (Maybe I should boost the brightness of my monitor...) The metal
collar looks excellent. If you want to be crazy, engrave a brand name or
insignia into it. :)

You need to boost antialias quite a bit. Are you using AA method 2?
Your area lights need fixing to get rid of the speckle in the brush's
shadow. The idea is to make the multiple shadows overlap better. Try moving
them back heaps, or try reducing the grid size.

Radiosity will add more realism to this scene & photons can be used to add
some reflected gleam off the brass plate. I can't really comment on the
brass colour or finish ATM, I'm all "brassed-out" from my "Aussie Dollars"
experiments. :)

Hee Hee!

Didn't Salvadore Dali claim he painted some painting with a brush with a
single bristle?
