Hi all,
this plastic toy plane always stands on my monitor, so I thought it was time
to model it with Wings3D. It lasted some time to figure out how to apply
the logo onto the wing...
You normally get this plane as a present when you depart from Hamburg
Airport, but this one I found in a geocache nearby called "Runway"
The plane is sitting on a cube with image_ and bump_map from a screen copy
of the airport's web site.
Exporting with the Povray-Plugin in Wings3D didn't work, but via
Wavefront.obj and Poseray it was fine. The logo for the wing I made with
Corel Draw.
Rendered in less than two minutes as there is only one point light and no
photons nor radiosity.
Not a great work, but perhaps you like it,
Bu.

Care to make it with photons and some distersion? Remove the caustics keyword if you
try it.

When you get happy with this work a signature into the texture and
contact the airport; they may well want a copy for an advert.

I tried it. I rendered it with photons (and without dispersion first), but
the shadows were too harsh. After your posting I tried it again with a
photons' spacing of 0.05 (previous was default spacing 0.01) and the
shadows seemed to be a little washed out. A compromise of 0.02 looked quite
nice, so I rendered it again with this spacing and an additional dispersion
1.05 and dispersion_samples of 20. That's the image of the second upload.
I think, this scene is an example where simpler is better, especially when
it's only a simple scene.
In my opinion the picture without photons is better.
Thank you Alain, you gave me the necessary kick to explore more!
Yours,
Bu.
BTW: rendering time with photons/dispersion was 3h 11' 30''
Without see above ;-)

Perhaps I'll contact them. Just I don't know their frequency...
Anyway: It's not appropriate for an ad. Passengers might think they'd be
stucked into planes like these :)
Yours,
Bu.
