Hi there,
this was rendered by a home-made engine that uses OpenGL. Different
impacts were shot, and the surface soon becomes turbulent. Waves of
fire, free flowing.

The project is still in early development, but this data should
eventually be 'mapped' onto a spherical object, making a planet or an
asteroid. Eventually, the ball of fire should cool down and yield an
eroded rocky surface on which vegetation will be added.

The current program makes an excellent screensaver but I intend to
make a simulation program with the whole planet as the simulation map.
It should be very nice, specially when I add the vegetation and
constructions. Only glitch is there's no objectives yet.

Unfortunately, the render was done at 30FPS on my old computer and to
achieve such a lightning speed I had to decrease very much the number of
polygons in the screen.

The data and algorythms can be easily ported to povray, probably as
macros.
