A variation on the flat little red tea-cosy thing I posted a few days ago.
This time in the Z dimension as well.

Comments / criticism / suggestions welcome.

Stefan,
What can I say? Transmogrified!
I really like the rhythm and colour of those opalescent pearls.
Next thing we'll have perlemoen!

Sure, Meneer DLM!

Thanks for the pointers you gave me - the whole base idea for the image was
something that popped up into that empty void between my ears when I looked
at the modified code you sent me. I've made something else that more
directly implements your cylinders-between-points idea that is rendering
currently - I will soon post it and one other image that is derived from
the code you sent me.

Thanks for taking the time to look,

Lekker bly!

Stefan,

The attached spiro.pov is a slightly later version of the previous with
macro-ized xy coordinate handling.
More to the point, I realized that hooking cylinders together gets messy at
the edges especially when they're fat. The smart fix was to have cylinders
and spheres with a sphere at the end (and beginning) of the chain of
cylinders. This produces a seamlessly articulated chain. Perhaps I'm just
too dumb/lazy to figure out how to build a really long and convoluted
spline. Anyway the psychedelic doily seems to work fine except for what
looks like an occasional math glitch. And the problem of counting the
appropriate number of revolutions to complete the circuit.

Thanks - new eye of newt for my bubbling pot of spirographs...

That looks a lot like a dreamcatcher!

So many spirographs and so little processor time...

Kind regards,

Cool Idea! I had one of those little collection of cogs as a child. I
would like to see it wrapped around a sphere.

Have you got an idea of how to implement it? Mail me at
spamnot@<removethis>polard.com and I'll send you the code. (I've got no
idea how to make it wrap a sphere).
