The small diamonds look ok(ish) to me, but taking into account that those
gems are all one model, ('combined' in Wings), I wonder why the larger stone
has a darker appearance given that they all have the same pigment, texture,
etc?

Interiors scale poorly. Give the large diamond's interior a scale equal to
1/[the scale factor of the whole diamond]. That should fix it.

Fascinating rings. Great design details, that degree of scale change
(between the imprints and teh ring over all ) is fairly difficult in
mesh which your notes suggest to me you are using.

The display feels a bit forced to me though. I am guessing that you
trying to act on the usual advice have lots of textures to be reflected
in the metal surface. But I find the horizontal texture just too muddy
and busy and it's slight greenish cast does poorly together with the
strong yellow. I keep wanting either a more desaturated yellow in the
ring or some red somewhere to set it off. Did you by any chance try a
less busy stone texture for the dislay surface? And I would take away
the blue infinite plane altogether. I have been looking at the display
pedestals that artists like Giacometti or Brancusi made for their own works.

Just the idea of embrassing the display as an abbreviated element that
is a matter of convention and artistry

The scane use fade_color and fade_distance to colour the diamonds. When you scale up
the object,
there is more interior to concidere. As the size augment, it become a multiple of the
fade_distance,
causing the whole to become darker.
The solution is, usualy, to increase the fade_distance.

I like those rings... and the small diamonds are pretty nice too.
