This is an old model I found while searching for interesting HDRI
targets. I've enhanced some of the pieces with Wings3D, changed the
trademark (sorry, it was irresistible... ;) and used "the kitchen" hdr
to lighten it. At some point I forgot to turn on the radiosity, and the
result looked nice anyhow, with a beautiful contrast.
The image took 8 min. to render, using pre-clipped focal blur.

Impressive! Was the found model yours or from the net?
It's a good thing that you are so forgetful. :)

Very realistic (as always Jaime). I thought however the "original" trademark
was misspelled.

OK, this may sound like a daft question but what is pre-clipped focal blur.
Does this improve the speed of renders using focal blur? If so do you have
any links to information about this, I had a quick look but couldn't find
any reference to this technique.
Very nice picture BTW..
Thanks,
Sean

Maybe it depends on where you live. Awesome is legit in some circles:

nono, I know the right way to spell it is "awesome", but "AWSOME ROLEX" is a
reference to someone who posted a Rolex-image, a few years ago, which he
said he modelled and rendered using POV-Ray but apparently he didn't model
it and it wasn't rendered with POV-Ray. The subject of that post was
"AWSOME ROLEX". So now, when they call something an "AWSOME ROLEX" they
mean it's too good to be true, too realistic to be made with POV-Ray.
Isn't that story part of the vfaq? :)

and the story was from 1999:.

very interesting as a flaming-troller thread, anyways

It's not a technique, but a basic behavior of the program. See my
last post on p.unofficial.patches, with subject "To clip or not to
clip...". There are also many discussions about this "hot" topic on
these newsgroups: just search for "clipping"...
> Does this improve the speed of renders using focal blur?
I didn't test it, sorry: I only wanted to get ride of the grainy
results. But I think the speed should be similar with both methods.

Yep... it was to avoid legal issues: perhaps that troll has
registered the original trademark. :)
