Crazy. Could use anti-aliasing though.

At sauna I got this vision of a glass-made questionmark to trace. So I
made it. It looked good, but a bit plain[1], so I made the checkered
plane. It started to look lonely, so I made a pal for it.

You're absolutely right. It's also a bit too bright for me. Let's fix
this...

*mumbling for few hours*

And here we go. Focal blur for anti-aliasing (aperture 2.0), less light
and light fading to decrease the brightness. Rendering time did
increase, tough...

Total Scene Processing Times
Parse Time: 0 hours 0 minutes 0 seconds (0 seconds)
Photon Time: 0 hours 0 minutes 9 seconds (9 seconds)
Render Time: 0 hours 26 minutes 47 seconds (1607 seconds)
Total Time: 0 hours 26 minutes 56 seconds (1616 seconds)

I'll also renew the 1600x1200 -version, when my workstation finishes
rendering it.

Hmm, I think I liked it brighter. And I think you overdid the blur =)

Yep, I did; tried to shoot with long focal length. There's also a WIP
-version at web as the "golden center line":

	Nice bit of work.
This is purely a subjective comment but the colors of the
lights are kind of harsh to my eyes: I would perhaps make the
checkers light gray and dark gray instead of black and white
and maybe also reduce the saturation of the colors of each light.
Still: it is your picture and if that is the effect you were
shooting for, more power to you.
At the cost of render time you might want to play with
area lights to get fuzzy shadows.
I also wonder how this would look with photons. :)

Hmm. You're right, that might be worth of trying.

The effect I was aiming for was originally just a question mark made of
glass. But it was a bit plain and... You know :)

Good idea. I'm allready thinking also to make the plane a bit reflective
also. I'll see what I'll get to with this.

Just look the picture, it has them.
