Hi all,

A simple indoor scene depicting a part of my home's sitting room - still
learning a lot about Pov as I go along.

Likes:

I think I got the carpet down pat.

Dislikes:

- Simplistic furniture models.
- Hate the chairs' feet - a bit out of alignment as well.
- Scene seems "empty" - lacking in spirit / complexity?
- Something about the lighting is bothering me - supposed to be a bright
early afternoon outside.

Anyway, a penny for your thoughts.

Regards,

Looks like a lot of good work. The furniture looks fine to me. Far and
away my main stopping point is the bright white wall. It doesn't seem
to recieve any shadow. Also its features. Is that a window showing a
garden beyond? But no window frame?

Minor note, the fruit bowl seems oddly scaled.

My first impression was: do you really have everything aligned that
well? Maybe you could turn the chairs a bit. Oh, and get it a bit
dirty ;)

But apart from that: Nice image!

Erm... correct and correct again. I'll see if I might improve some of it.
Thanks about the wall hint - now I know what was bothering me!

Also right - the apples need to be a bit larger.

Ah well - live and learn.

Thanks for the critique!

It looks like you're using a very low camera angle. I feel like I'm across
the street looking into the house through a window with a telescope. It
might look more natural if you relax the camera angle significantly (maybe
bringing the camera closer to compensate) so that there's more of a
perspective effect. The camera is looking down on the whole scene, but I
would expect to see the ceiling at the top of the image; it makes me wonder
if you're trying to hide the ceiling for some reason.

A lot of the scene isn't recieving direct light, and is relying on a fairly
high ambient value. I think you have the intensity of the light source
right, but the shadowed areas don't look realistic. This might be a good
candidate for radiosity.

The modelling is very good.

If the light is suposed to come only from a window, the shadows are way to bright: try
lowering your
ambient value. Some missalignment of the furniture could realy improve the realism,
maybe some small
random rotation around the y axis. The wood grain looks to large compared ti the size
of the
furnitures, try scaling it down, maybe to 1/10 of it's present scale. Also, it's
orientation seems
odd, unnatural for furnitures. Once the composition is finalised, try Slime's
suggestion about
radiosity.
The edge of the white carpet is very good. I like your flowers.
