I think it's pretty obvious what this is.  (But not that obvious...meaning
it's not random ellipses =P)

I'll leave it as an exercise to the posters to explain what this is.  ;)

It took uhh, 0.00481481481 days to render....

are it tori placed on spheres? (in such a way that when you would use an
infinite number of tori, it would look like a sphere?)

Good idea to make a lot of them, and place them in a grid. You can consider
making one of the shapes red, to break the pattern a bit.
