This is basically my first attempt at making a scene with several different
elements, which is why the planet is just the one given in the textures
section of the included tutorial.  Admittedly, I did make the "lasers"
before stumbling across the no_shadow parameter, which would allow them to
be opaque.  But I haven't decided whether I might like a bit of
transparency.  Plus, rendering it with media and radiosity takes longer than
it's really worth it for me to wait for a second version of such a simple
scene.

As long as you realize that there is so little dust in space that you
won't see any laser beam ;) . In movies they are visible, but that is
because they don't care about physics.
BTW I assume you are using 3.6 bacause you have the non-antialiased
line artifact that was earlier mentioned here. Probably for the same
reason.

yeah, i know, but i figure the picture wouldn't make much sense if all you
saw were the ufo's and the explosions, with no indication of how they were
related.
