Hi povers,
The scene take place in the Alpes, near Chamoix-Mont Blanc, France.
The Landscape is made with DEM from SRTM :
http://www2.jpl.nasa.gov/srtm/index.html . There is holes in this DEM, I
filled them with BLACKART (http://www.terrainmap.com/)
The snow is made with two blob : one for the layer on the roof and one for
the terrain around the chalet. What do you think of it ?

Hi ZeSly,
It looks very nice! Nice modelling with the house, too. I've been studying
the picture for a while, to come up with a few suggestions. It doesn't look
as "real" as I would like. There are probably several reasons. Here are 3 of
them:
1) The snowy "mountains" in the horizon looks bad. I'm sure you know that.
2) The trees are too uniform. Add some variation if you have enough memory
resources.
3) Take another look at some reference photos of showy places in sunshine.
As you know, textures, colours, and lighting can make a scene breathtakingly
beautiful... One thing I've noticed about your image, is the colours. The
show is grey although the sky is blue. Normally, the show will reflect this
blueish colour (mostly in the shadows).
It's nicely done, however, and I've never seen a raytracing that features
completely realistic looking show, so you shouldn't feel sorry! :-)
Regards,
Hugo

Hi ZeSly:
Appart from what Hugo suggested, I think you need some glass on these
windows, or at least make it more reflective if it is there.
Keep adding detail, it's very promising.

Argh, I messed up the words big time.. I wrote "show" every time instead of
"snow".. By the way, you have a nice homepage with impressive POV images!

Thanks !

Yes, I know that :-) But what I don't know is how to improve it. Using real
data for the height_field does not help.

There is only one tree model, rotated and scaled randomly. I'll try to use
more models.

You're right. I've tried to increase the gray_threshold of the radiosity but
I have to adjust the color of the sky.

There is reflection on the glass but not enough.
