tried to translate Thomas de Groot's suggestions. water plane is now a
box.

Looks much bettter, but the water still should interact with the walls some,
splashing against it, or reflecting waves from it. IMHO, I'd change the
water color maybe a bit greener, so it dosen't match the walls so well.
I've seen water that color though, storm runoff.

Wonderful realism and great art. I must say however that I cannot imagine
people wanting to sit so close to such a muddy ;-) river. How about a
little blue down there??

i'd change the color too, but by using media and changing the fade color,
leaving the surface mostly transparent and colorless.

Yes, much better. The wood still does not look really like wood to me,
though. Differential scaling could improve I guess, something like
<0.01,1,0.01>. Experimenting necesary to get best result. The cross section
of the beams should show the wood structure.
