Double check that you have "media on" in the radiosity settings.
Try broadening the bright part of your media, so there is more of it to 
emit light.
If scaling down, multiply the density by as much as you reduced the size.

Thought about it, but then it dosen't look real.

I posted the spark code, and now I'm using the fixed macro that Ger posted
yesterday with a string of lights.

Originally, I had a spline sweep, but I wasn't having any luck getting good
shapes, or illumination from it.

I like the way your images are progressing.

I've been around a long time and never heard of these things. They
sound (do you still have neighbours?) very interesting to play with
:-) Better than Tesla coils?

Q1 About how long does it take from power-on to discharge?

Q2 Can you charge the caps to just below the discharge point and then
trigger the contraption with a pulse?

Typically seconds, but it mostly depends on your power supply.
In some versions, the resistors are replaced by inductors, so there's
essentially no resistance in the system.

Sure, or use a high voltage relay to fire the first gap. The UV from it
triggers the others.

The sign on the right is fairly serious.
I work with 15-30kV sometimes, and that is done with two in the room only.
One working, one standing by.
