I was repeatedly making anims with TMPGEnc that would not play in Winamp or
Windows Media Player. Their thumbnail was also not displayed properly in
Windows Explorer. Several of these "defective" anims would however play in
IE. The problem fortunately only occurred with special test scenes and not
on any of my more ambitious projects.

It appears that the problem has to do with the amount of contrast in the
scene. I made two anims with identical scenes, except for the presence of
two large spheres in the background. The low-contrast scene makes a
"defective" TMPGEnc MPG-1, the higher contrast one works fine.
