I am currently 'reconstructing' the temple of Apollo in Didyma, Turkey. As
much as possible, I try to follow the building standards og ancient Greeks,
like slightly bulging columns and - overall - a slight bulging of the whole
temple. Nothing that can be noticed immediatly, but contributing to the
overall effect.
These are three current views. Modelling is done in Moray, render in POV.
of course: comments more than welcome!!

Very nice job Thomas, following your column post in mdl file!.
Just an observation : can you post a view from above, so we will better
understand the organization of the building. Very good observation of the
orientation of the capitals on the front and the sides of the building. Only
one thing: I can't see on thre drawing, are the two overhangs of the main
building in the front porch.
Have you an idea for the pediments and the roofing?

Yes, I shall post an overview, especially as the roof is not yet built, this
will give a clear impression.
The capitals were especially tricky for the corner columns. You have to
understand that I used heightfields for the spirals. However, on the
corners, the spiral is bent 45 degrees. So I made a combination with
differences of four (4) heightfields to solve the problem.
Not sure I understand what you mean by the two overhangs.
Indeed the large scene-like door is not visible here because of the crowding
of the columns.
Thans for the comments, by the way!!
Thomas

Didn't I see this building in "Hidden and Dangerous"?

Great! Very impressive! Good work.
The only little thing possible to correct is the intercolumniation between
the two middle columns. It is usually slightly bigger and equals 3 diameters
of column (according to Vitruvius) unless the temple of Apollo in Didyma was
an exeption.

Possibly, but I am not aware of that.

Hmm... If I read the plans correctly (those published by the official
instances, archeological or otherwise), the intercollumniation seems to be
equal everywhere in this temple. Now, it may be that Vitruvius was refering
to Roman temples? Although, of course, he based himself largely on Greek
examples. So, I am not sure, as far as Didyma is concerned. I shall have to
go there to do the measurements!!!

Excellent modeling work. I can feel the space. Impressive so far.

I find this interesting. How do you generate the height field to begin with?
Is it done in POV or do you use another application?

Thank you. It started as another project and then it got out of control.

I use an image map (see the attachment) as heightfield. I had the chance to
have a detailed engraving reproduction that I processed in PaintShopPro. The
leafs are not perfect, but at a distance they look quite realistic. After
that, it is just POV.

Ah! I forgot to mention: use waterlevel option to make all black fields
transparant.
