Ok, I've reduced the wings to about 40 or so and it took just over
71/2 hours to render. When I tried it the other night, I woke up to
find that it was on line 200 at 7 hours, so I think I found a good
compromise with the max_trace_level set at 30. Yes, the bullrushes
aren't good yet. ;)
Comments always appreciated.

Cool! An indigo (0.4, 0.6, 0.8) light source pointing straight down and
shadowless might add depth.

Wouldn't using media go faster? Just a thought... (adaptive sampling &
all that...)

Quite possibly, but then, how would I get the shape of the wings
using media? Keep the present wings, but use media instead of glass?
Is that what you were thinking?

Very cool look dragonfly. The lighting could use some help, it's hard to see
some of the details. I love the eyes, wings, and hair on it's back. What
kind of computer are you running this on? just curious, wondering if 7+
hours is a long time, or a short time ;)

looking nice. My old lady has a dragon fly with flames surrounding it
tattooed on her back.
The one weak spot is the connection of the wings to the thorax. I
figured out that this is why it looks robotic to me. Nice legs.
