Inspired by Light Beam, this weekend I have been trying to master radiosity.
Any tips? Suggestions?

Beautiful! Maybe a sky_sphere { pigment { wrinkles } } statement might
add even more interest (although I like the purity of the reflection on
the sphere!)

Gleam of hope?
Can you tell us how you made ring's material?

Nice image, nice reflections. But IMHO this is not a good radiosity example:
this is mostly reflections example and could be created without using
radiosity at all - at least almost.
How would it look without radiosity? I'd be interested to see. You might
need to add an area light to accomplish that, of course.
Did you use variance 0 with focal blur? If not, that might improve the ugly
"borders" Pov-Ray generates in the checker squares in the back.

This is my day ;-)
What the texture inside the sphere ? media ?
The lightning is nice enough... great "abstract" image. Nice done !

It is simply a highly-reflective finish with a bozo normal scaled to a large
size with respect to the size of the shape.

Sphere texture is just a marble pattern.
The translucence is an illusion caused by the very diffuse lighting and
reflections.

The effects of radiosity are not very apparent in this image. Perhaps
you can make a simple maze to demonstrate any problems and/or
achievements you have had using radiosity?

I'm a bit confused. What effect of radiosity is missing?
This image was created without a light source, with just radiosity for the
illumination.
So whatever effect is here, it is done through radiosity.
