Well, hopefully it's female flesh. What do you think? More slender,
fatter, shorter? It's not often that I get to see a nice ladies hand
to get some inspiration - (my wife's hands are larger than mine and a
whole lot hairier too!)   ;)

Heh, (can't believe I just typed that...)

 Anyway, I'm more concerned with the skin texture than anything. I'm
trying this code below:

  texture{
         PinkAlabaster scale .005
 normal{crackle .035 scale .035}
         finish {ambient -.1}
          }

  ...but is there anything else I could add to this to make the skin
texture and colour better?

   ~Steve~

yes, erm... I wasn't going to point it out but it has something
of the "bride of frankenstein" about it - I'm sure that can be
fixed, but what are you using - csg? a modeller?

I'm guessing Wings.
Steve did you see the link I posted for Steve Shelby? I think its
pretty good.
http://www.3dm-mc.com/tutorials/maya/texturing/
Without even dealing with the bump_mapping shown, it demonstrates how
far you can take an image_map for your pigment. That is going to have
the most impact. The finish etc. is a subtler issue.

   No, Wings3D, but is it easy/easier/possible to make a hand with
blobs? I can see the reasoning for using blobs, but if possible, how
long would it take to do?

   ~Steve~ (never used blobs - ever)

  You guess right Jim! (How did you know??) ;) You know, I had
Wings installed before last Christmas, had a play with it, didn't like
it, (I was into sPatch then), and then deleted it. :oO

  It was yourself that got me to try Wings again with 'primate test'
and I blame you for me not being able to put it down... ;) Which is a
good thing, because I know I can produce an image that I just couldn't
before.

   I've been set free and now I've got to learn the PoV technical
stuff, (textures, finishes, etc.)

  Wow! Thanks for that Jim - it looks 'very' promising.

Oh, ok, I've never used a modeller so i try and stay away from
animals and people in my pics. However there's a short tutorial
of a hand in the tutorial http://www.povray.org/documentation/view/59/
and details of blobs in the reference
http://www.povray.org/documentation/view/166/
and there may be modellers (kpovmodeller?) that support them
directly.

Nice start. It looks good, except it's too flat. If I look at my own hand in
the same position on the table, there is a definite arch from the little
finger to the thumb, and also a continuous slope, or decrease in thickness,
from the wrist to the tips of the fingers.
