Just did a simple scene to feature some modeling work. I chose the Desert
Eagle because of its popularity in movies and computer games. It has a
distinctive and powerful look. Scene took three days to render and I had to
re-render the text twice in order to get it to show up and look decent. Its
such a fine etching into the side and at that angle it gets easily lost.
Comments and criticism welcome.

Very nice modelling. How did you model it? What program did you use?

Probably a better wooden texture would bring more realism to the overall
scene.

Rhinoceros. Based off my airsoft replica, its accurate to about a
millimeter.

Yes you are absolutely correct about the wood. I didn't spend as much time
on that wood as I could have. I was stumbling around trying to find a good
isowood and almost abandoned it for just a generic isosurface. Then I
stumbled on ridged_mf, added some bumps and took it.

i thought it was on a piece of cloth until someone said it was wood

? end of barrel, istr that on guns, there's usuallya slight chamfer, and
does it have rifling ?

i don't actually know, i'm just asking.

I strived for a one millimeter resolution... so if there was any sort of
chamfering and it was smaller then this, it didn't get modeled. Here's a
pic of the gun I worked off of. I don't know about rifling, its not on my
gun and I don't know if the real one has it or how pronounced it is.

Very nice looking model! I think the the original (looking at the picture
you posted) is a bit more reflective than your model - especially the
lighter parts, but the black parts also. That would make it even more
realistic. Maybe.

FYI,

the desert Eagle does have rifling, any gun without rifling is about as
effective as a musket, I've shot a musket and belive me it aint accurate.
The Desert Eagle is also just about the hardest/ heaviest gun i've ever
held. The grip was actually too big for my hand. There is even a .50
version , how the hell anyone shoots that is beyond my ken.

is it possible to render/model specific areas to a higher degree of
definition ?
specifically an annular ring at end of barrel

Nice model. Shouldn't there be an insignia on the grip?

A DE is cool-ish, but you've got the skills for a Colt 1851 Navy
conversion, which would be Hella cool. Or, if you're into power, the
Walker.
