It's the only way. Just realize, as did Gombrich, that you are really
just memorizing a recipe, a "schema" or "schemata" as he called it, and
adapting it for use in your perception of the world.

'Schemata'. I understand.
Found this, (about Gombrich). Hope it's related, and if not, hope
it helps some out there...
"Indeed, the true miracle of the language of art is not that it
enables the artist to create the illusion of reality. It is that under
the hands of a great master the image becomes translucent. In teaching
us to see the visible world afresh, he gives us the illusion of
looking into the invisible realms of the mind - if only we know, as
Philostratus says, how to use our eyes."
(From Art and Illusion).

That's great! Not sure what it says, but it says it real loud!
What did you model it in?

Thanks! :)

Yep, no hidden message here Ron. Just five heads floating in liquid
copper. Standard Copper_Metal is the texture, and the face is more or
less finished as Medusa, (got to finish the ears).

Wings - I'm starting to really like this modeler.

Nice quote. That is the book I was referring to alright. It's cool
that you pursued it. It's a book I return to from time to time. One of
the starting points for the discussion in the book is: why is it that
the trees in highly realistic 17th or 18th century paintings look like
feather dusters to us? He proceeds from there to describe how children
actually learn to draw by learning to repeat set formulae for different
subjects and takes it from there.

I'm always impressed by the desire of those who refuse to play nice with
CG. It would be so easy to make some trees, buildings, or fractals.
Modeling a face is straight f***ing nuts.

LOL! You're not wrong! Have you tried Wings Shay? It's pretty damned
good, and goes waaaaay further than the basics, (there's a lot of
heavy duty tricks that can be done with it, which I have yet to
learn - do a search, tutorials etc. This guy is good,
http://www.geocities.com/paulthepuzzles/aardvarks.html )
Anyway, glad you liked it. :)
