Ok, but first I'll let my PC finish
a 800x600 rendering of this image.

I was a bit surprised that you referred to them as
Moebius strips.

But then I saw that the Mathworld page you gave a
link to above mentions this specifically:

number of half-twists ... "

Nice to know.

a definite inside and outside (when in the surface of the torus).

Britannica has this definition of a Moebius strip:

identifying, or pasting together, the ends of a
rectangular strip after first having given one of
the ends a one-half twist."

And, of course, it also says this:

"This space exhibits interesting properties, such
as having only one side and remaining still in one
piece when split down the middle."

there's not really any other differences between the shapes. I think

Here it is.

I have also attached two other images that shows the
difference between the images.

In the last image I have modified the color tones to
"amplify" the difference.

For me it is an important difference, but I'm no one in Mathematics :-)

it strange in some way; a strip with an odd number of half-twists is

with an even number of half-twists is just a twisted strip, there's nothing
strange about it. Well, that's my view, I wouldn't say an "open" cylinder

Thanks, it looks good, allthough the photon version looks a lot more
realistic, of course. Do you remember how big was the difference in
render time?

The 640x480 no-photons version took about 1.5 hour
to render. I'm don't remember how long time the
photons version took. But I think it took more than
twice that time.
