I've been modifying Micha Riser's butterfly to hopefully make it a little
more realistic. I suppose it's still a work-in-progress, but it looks
pretty good as long as you don't do a close-up. One of the things that's
still wrong is that the wings look exactly the same on the top and bottom.
Also, the butterfly is a bit barrel-chested.

I decided to just throw it together with Gilles' twigs and some grass. Jpeg
doesn't like to compress well with all of that grass, however.

Should anyone care:
4x4 jittered area-light
Focal-blur (50 samples)
no radiosity
about 5h to render at 1024x768 on Athlon 1800+
shrunk to 640x480

Yaa right, knock it off, this is a POV newsgroup, not a photography
newsgroup. ;)

Yeah. Thank Gilles Tran for the macro. What I did, which added tons of
realism, imho, was to make one pass with green grass, and another pass with
really skinny, brown, dead grass, and to have both patches occupy the same
space. I called it "double layering". It's actually the same exact patch
of grass that I used for my "Radio Graves" IRTC picture.

I saw a couple problems, so I fixed them, and I also modified the
butterfly's body a little bit. I had scaled the wings wrong, and I had
"ambient_light 0", even though I'm not using radiosity, which makes some
"black holes" in a couple places.

So, here's the updated version. Slightly different lens angle.

It is a much better idea to use #default {finish {ambient 0 diffuse 1}}.
This allows you to use high-ambient objects in the scene if you decide
you want to.
