This is my first post, you can see the improvement in the 2 images, what
else can i change to make it look more realistic.
I spend a good amount of time making this macro, so now it can make any
screw/bolt with given pitch, length, and diameter

By putting an image_map on a surrounding sphere, it will add more realistic
reflections. Apart form that, I'd play with the textures to differentiate the
rough surfaces that have just been molded from the smooth surfaces that had to
be machined.
Very good images and modelling, btw.

Put a large sphere or cube (e.g. 50x bigger than your scene) with an image map
of real surroundings on it. This will save you the trouble of modelling a whole
room, while giving you interesting reflections.

Modelling is great. On the lighter one, the main problem is that the
shadows in the object are too light compared with the darkest areas of
the background. Was this postprocessed?
I took it into PhotoShop and darkened these shadows. (Should have done
same to the reflection.) I think this looks better:

Of course you want to get pov to generate this directly.

Maybe he can try it using brilliance and metallic.

Damn these new fangled first posts, I remember the day when a polished
sphere was good enough for anyone.
