Beautiful!

How do you fill the bowls with stones?

Yeah, I was intrigued by that too! How'd you manage that?

Thanks.

The interior of the bowl is a cylinder so I first wrote a macro to place
stones on a disk surface and then layered several disks (with some shift
in stone placement) to give the illusion that the bowl is filled. The
trick is ok if you're looking from far enough because there are some
intersections with the bowl in fact. Furthermore, each stone is given
some random rotation to give the illusion it was dropped.
I can post the macro if you're interested.

I like the scene, but the tatami weave doesn't look familiar, and the color
is a little too even.

Thanks. In fact the tatami is an image map because at the time I made
this image I was discovering povray and I just had no idea how to do a
tatami mat using csg.

Maybe it's just that the shadows are parallel to the weave of the mats
that looks a little strange, still a very nice image.

sure, I know it's a hard problem in general.
