Hey All,
It's been a while since I last posted an image, and with the dearth of
posts here lately, I figured it was as good of a time as any. Seeing Hugo's
and JC's Menger sponges constructed with spheres made me realize how simple
it is to make one. So I made one last night. I wanted to do something
different, so I switched from non-reflective spheres to reflective cubes. I
put the camera at the edge of one of the large openings and used a 180
degree camera. By doing so, I unexpectedly also ended up fulfilling my
desire to create a (seemingly) infinite reflection image. I put the
max_trace_level to 15, and threw in radiosity for good measure. I rendered
at 1400x1400 AA 0.3 in about 5.5 hours. You can resize the image I've
included to your desktop size if you want to use it as a wallpaper. Enjoy.

Hi Ben, very nice pic !! Remind of Vasarelli painting, I love it !!
And I would love to see the code to know how to do that. I did few myself
(in painting) long time ago and they are still on the wall of my small
office room.

Cheers

Thanks Tommy. That's a nice compliment to compare my works to Vasarely's.
I do try to go for a kinetic feel in my works, and I love optical illusions
and perceptual effects. I feel like the computer did most of the work for
me on this one though. :) Sorry I missed your post, go check the p.b.s.f.
group for the code.

-Ben

P.S. might this be the one that it reminds you of?
