This is using media, radiosity, and a single area light. I'm not to happy with the
way the media turned out, but I thought I'd post
the results anyway.

Comments, suggestions are much appreciated.

I like it a lot. Orange skin, the vase, lighting it's all very nice.
Only thing I would change is the peer which seems not to fit in my
opinion. That's because it's got the shape of a peer and a color that's
not a peer's color, exactly the contrary of the other fruits.

You seem to be preparing your next IRTC entry, ain't you ? ;-)

Hmm, but I thought making yet another square fruit would get repetitive. You're right
though, there is something about the pear
that isn't quite right. I thought it was the leaves, or the stem. Plus, I can't
think of another fruit that I could make a texture
for that would convey what it was, without having it's proper shape. Except for maybe
a watermelon. :-)

Well, I thought I better at least enter the round that fits my style. Next round will
be back to "More Real than Real", which I
don't do to well. :-)

You're right about the leaves too.
Pineapple would be great, if you can texture it, or maybe make it with
CSGs.

I'll work on my entry too, Real looking stuff is not really my style
either ... if I have any. :-)

What about a small cube on top of a bigger one for the pear?
Or a (truncated) pyramid:

prism { linear_spline conic_sweep -.5, -4
  5, <-.3,-.3>, <-.3,.3>, <.3,.3>, <.3,-.3>, <-.3,-.3>
  }

A banana also could be recognizeable: either box { 0, <5, 1, 1> } or

intersection {
  cylinder { 0, Thick*y, Radius+Thick }
  cylinder { -0.1*y, (Thick+0.1)*y, Radius inverse }
  plane { -x, 0 }
  plane { x, 0 rotate Angle*y }
  texture { ... }
  }

If you find the correct color, apricots and plums should look good.
And what about walnuts?
