  Depth at Dawn - Abstract/Fun (Message 1 to 10 of 10)

Some of my older scenes have been made with my
particle system, and some have survived along with
the particle system on that mysterious CD. "Depth"
was an older image with metallic blob, focal blur
and scattering media.
Due to the changes from then to now, the random-
streams are different and thus, I get a completely
different distribution of blob-components. Playing
around with it, this is the rather monochromatic image
that popped up, and which I quiet like. Probably
because of its warm feeling, due to the soft orange
light (and hence the name: Depth at Dawn :-)

Enjoy!

Regards,
Tim

Reminds me of an exploding meteor. It looks very good. I'm impressed by the
media effect. I've seen a few of those around here lately. I need to find
some code before I can start the fun, but I hope it's quick? (..relatively
quick)

Hugo

Fantastic picture. And great name. Congrats.

BTW... Do you happen to have a high-res (1024x768 +) version around?

The code for the media is rather simple:

sphere{0,1 hollow pigment{rgbt 1}
 interior{
  media{
   scattering{4,.15 extinction 0}
   method 3 intervals 1 samples 125,1500
   density{spherical color_map{[0 rgb 0][.2 rgb .4][.9 rgb 1][1 rgb 1]}}
   }
  }
 }

The rendering time isn't that simple... For smooth
lightrays, I needed the high amount of minimum
samples, and I don't expect that the upper limit of
1500 was actually reached, but just wanted to
make sure...
Note that the media is designed to be dense around
the center of the sphere, and fall off outwards. But
this should be enough to begin playing around...
Lowering the samples to something like 10,30 might
be sufficient for pre-vis, and then set higher until
all artefacts are taken care of.

Don't know where you got that impression from. Because
of the recent posts concerned with a lava lamp? "Depth
at Dawn" is a 2003 Update of my 2002 Image "Depth",
which you may also find in my Gallery:

http://www.digitaltwilight.de/no_lights/v1gallery/standard/depth.html

Additionally, a lava lamp would require subsurface scattering
for the wax part, and probably less scattering in the liquid...

     "...saltwater pools populated by millions of small jellyfish..."

    If you look over the edge of our local pier that heads out to sea
during the Summer, you'll see thousands of them at high tide near the
surface - a sight to see for sure...
