Here's the background picture for a re-make of the classic 80's arcade game
"Centipede" I'm working on. Something just doesn't seem quite right about
this background to me, but I'm not sure what's wrong. Any suggestions?

By the way, I used a paint program to position the objects after they were
rendered - I always feel like I'm cheating when I do that...

For anyone who's interested, the _very_ unfinished game can be downloaded
here: http://www.mindspring.com/~grasshoppah/centipede/ You'll need to save
all four files to your computer, and run the "FGDriver" program before
starting the game. (At least until I decide to register the graphics
library - I'm using a shareware version.)

Given the perspective on the lettering and the shadows, the right edge of
each
bar should be showing a side as well as a face, but it isn't doing so; I
don't
know how you generated the image exactly, but that's what would be expected
from
a 'realistic' perspective.

You might also expect the right and left sides to show their perspective in
opposite directions... the current setup is as though the viewer were to
the right side of the screen. Being centered (most likely) or to the left
side of the screen, the image will be unrealistic, or at least give the
viewer the expectation
that the field of play will be at an angle matching such a perspective...

I think interface elements such as these would best be rendered with an
orthographic camera

You're quite right. I took a shortcut and only rendered one "side," then
duplicated it and copied the words over both copies. I'll render both sides
with proper perspectives and see if that fixes everything.
