I've added a parasol and deck chair, and improved the texturing on the rock.
Note the very bottom of the rock is darker, to suggest it's wet.

I'm not sure if I like the direction is heading in now, the man made objects
have altered the scene... What do you think?

Next I plan on having a play with trees and then maybe a character, but I'm
fairly happy with this little project so pretty soon I'll start a zazzle-sized
render of it and move on with something else (probably when the next irtc topic
is announced).

All suggestions are welcome.

I might use more muted colors for the parasol - the bright red and blue is
fighting for predominance with the green grass.

I think though, that if it were my scene I'd keep it free of man-made
objects, and
work on trees (or a tree) and maybe a seagull or dolphin. It definitely
loses some
wildness by dropping consumer items in, and it fixes the scale very
precisely for
the viewer.

It is, however, a very cool image, but I think you've heard that once or
twice
before. ;)

I agree, it makes the scene too "nice/lovely" and it looses something of 
its surrealism. Mmm a thought, how about Tiger Woods taking a swing with a 
big driver towards the coastline?

I think I agree about man-made objects changing the scene for the worse. The
deckchair is possibly OK, but I don't like the parasol at all :(.

It does need some sort of focus though... perhaps a rabbit (skipping away
from the camera rather than sitting on its haunches looking cute I would
have thought). Or perhaps keep the deckchair but have a walking stick
leaning against it?

I'm not sure... its always hard to see what to add when the initial image is
so good. It has a very definite 'feel' to it that you don't want to lose.

When I first saw this I thought it was great as it was but ppl were asking
for more... the first thing that popped into my head was too put a full
sized man sat on the island (it already has a sort of a chair shape to it).

Dont know if it would work or not... just think it would make it feel like
an isolated island for someone who is after solitude...

Just my thoughts ;)

Fair enough, the parasol was only a few minutes work anyway.

I'm currently rendering a test scene with a different shaped image (3:2 ratio,
suitable for a zazzle poster), and without the chair or parasol. And now it
looks a bit empty...
I think I might put something in the water, to lead the eye from the fractal to
the mountains.

The more I look at it (and read comments) I can't see any way for the parasol to
fit. I tried other colours before deciding on these (initially it was bright
yellow and red!).

I agree. I like the seagull and dolphin ideas, though I think only one or the
other, to keep the scene simple. The tree is definitely worth trying, I'll drop
one of the maketree examples into the scene and see how it looks.

:) yes, but I'll never get tired of hearing it.
I'm glad people like this image so much, it had been in my head for a long time
and I only decided to realise (surrealise) it out of shear boredom.

I think if I put anyone on the island I'll sit them in the deck chair, but for
now I want to move away from man and man-made objects. Though your suggestion is
