Hi there,

have been working on this image some weeks ago, but never posted it. I think
it looks rather well, but it ain't perfect yet. So if anyone knows what can
be improved, i would love to know.

No... the focal_blur is enough but I think the focal_point must be set
lower...

you mean, more to the foreground? If so, i agree (otherwise i might agree as
well :-))

Looks good so far.

Are the sharpeners made out of wood? It looks a bit grey and plastic at the
moment. It might look better if you rotated it so the grain doesn't line up with
the sides of the sharpeners. Also the lighting looks a little too even, try a
stronger contrast between the light and shadows because at the moment things
look a little flat.

Yes, brown part is made out of wood, and the actual knives are made out of
metal. I will rotate the texture by 5 degrees or so, and see if it looks
better.

At the moment there are 20 lights (one light rotated around the y-axis
1/10th of a degree 20 times by a loop).
I will try an arealight to see if that works better.

Thanks for the tips, they realy help.

i don't get a good feeling of scale when looking at this. If a pencil
sharpener is about 1 inch in size, then the floor tiles are super small, and
then what is this big block on the left? it would be about the size of a
chinese food takeout carton, but it looks like a wall.

I think a few good desk items and a more natural floor or table surface
would compliment your nicely detailed pencil sharpeners. and some pencils!

so i guess my suggestion is to improve the environment. the sharpeners are
looking pretty good (thought all mine growing up where either metal or
plastic)

The problem is the sides appear completely flat coloured. Some turbulence might
help too. The metal material on blades look about right.

That sounds like a fairly unnatural lighting setup. I recommend an arealight
above and to one side, to pick out more details, and maybe make it slightly
orange to simulate a light bulb. Just a suggestion :)

the pencil sharpeners are 1 inch size, the big white thing on the left is
just there to fill the scene.

the tiles need some work, I added a sheet of paper with 5 mm squares to give
a better feling of scale.
