Here's a version with radiosity and HDR. Like I said the metallic effect
requires a light source, so this needed a bit of tweaking to make the light
source match up to roughly the position of the sun in the HDR image without
interfering too much with the radiosity. I also turned off the sharp specular
highlight that was on the gloss coating 'cause it's not needed with such a
realistic reflection image.

Basically it looks good if most of your lighting comes from light sources, if it
doesn't then you'll need to mess around creating some lights just for this
object. But that's what I did here and I think it's worth the effort.

And while we're on the subject, does anyone know if it's theoretically possible
to get specular radiosity interaction? I know pov can't do it, but as far as I
can see it should be possible to do a specular calculation on the radisoity
samples. It would be slow but still much better than true blurred reflections.

You've got... lets see... Red, White, Cream/gold and Green.... but where's
black?

I mean really! Who would buy anything other than a cool black vehicle!?!
Just think of Kitt.

Hmm I wonder if there is a POV model of Kitt floating around on the web.

You do realise metallic black is a contradiction? Well nearly, it would still
glitter but it would lose the illumination properties which are the whole reason
I started this!

I agree, black cars are way cooler than red or green ones.

I take it back, metallic black looks cool! Like I said it's just the reflection
and the glitter, but it looks much better than I thought it would.

Though I still don't recall ever seeing a metallic black car.

I almost see one every day. Did you never see a metallic black BMW?

Apparently not. Looking round the office car park I can see lots of metallic
cars, red, silver, about a dozen different greens, but no metallic black.

...Actually I can't see any black cars here! Maybe it's unpopular with my
colleagues. I'm sure you're right, I just prefer black cars that aren't
metallic, like Kitt :)

I was going to answer you, that black metallic can't be done, but BWM
does indeed have a Carbon Black Metallic. I found a picture of it at
http://www.bmwworld.com/pics/3er/e46/m3/6074_1024.jpg

The metallic effect is not obvious, but that may be due to poor picture
quality.

I can see it, just look near the highlight, there's a large blue/green metallic
highlight. Which actually means it's a very dark blue/green, not black! :)

It is black, photgraph is of a very low quality, so the colors may look a
bit different :-P.
