The first making for a snazzy wallpaper so far :P Ideally I'm wondering
how I could make the rays come out only a finite distance from the
sphere, but for now it works. The second is just a photon test run.

Nice pics
May be I don't get what you exaclty want but why not put your media in a
hollow sphere around your object?
you can as well apply a spherical density pattern to your media.

The exact effect I want to get would be something like flames pouring
straight out, but not exactly. With a sphere I think I would get a
sudden linear cut off, when I'd like a sort of gradual fade out.
As for density patterns, I haven't really figured those out yet...

I don't know what it is .. but it is very cool.
Have you tried this with letters or words in the interior of the glass?
Would make a cool logo.

Very nice.
To archieve something like flames you could use emission media with
spherical density and a black hole warp to stretch the pattern spherically.

Exhibit A: Neat. Exhibit B: Hmm ...
Keep posting. I really like the first image. I'm not sure
what it is, but it looks pretty keen. It reminds me that I
should experiment with media one of these days, now that
I have a fast enough machine to do so. My first POV
machine had a 133 Mhz CPU.

I love the first image!!!! I'm gonna zoomin with s-spline and make it my
desktop. Unless you post a larger version of course.....
