Hi folks.
Don't laugh... This is very probably the most complex scene I have *ever*
created with *any* 3D program in my entire life! It's taken me bloomin'
AGES!
The body and eyes only took about 20 seconds, but the legs are quite
detailed and fairly close to the original. (IMHO) It's taken me several
hours to put them together - and the image renders in seconds, so it's not
time spent waiting for the computer, it's time spent trying to wrap my head
around coordinate axies and spacial transformations. (I wish to God you
could CHOOSE what plane a prism lies in instead of having to figure out how
to rotate it and then figure out how to draw it before rotation so that
after rotation it will look right... *sigh*)
By the way... does anyone recognise what it's supposed to be???
Thanks.
Andrew.
PS. I know the legs should join to the main body through a box-shaped
thingy. Actually it's a frustrum. (At least I *think* that's the correct
term - a square pryamid with the top cut off). Does anyone have any idea how
to create such a shape? If all else fails I'll have to do the intersection
of some planes, but it'll be tricky...
PPS. Appologies for the HUGE image resolution - but 100KB isn't *that* much
to transfer, and there's a lot of small details in the image.
PPPS. Yes, the lighting sucks. I had noticed.

You could try conical prism ( see Help file section 3.4.3.4)

Hmm, I've read a book "The threeleg monsters" by John Christopher (My
translation of the german title, I don't know the original title), wehn
I was a kid (Oh I feel old with my age of 23 ;-)). I remember dark it
was about those machines under glass couples controlling whole mankind.
And there were a group of rebels trying to free everyone from those
monsters. If I remember correctly, they implamanted something in the
head of the peoples to control them.
Is it that?
BTW, nice picture, maybe you want to raise the camera view point?

Wasn't there a TV series called "the tripods" or something like that in
the 80's? It looks like one of the bad guys from there.

Ah - cool! I *thought* POV-Ray ought to have this feature already... (Mmm,
wonder how I hadn't seen this before...)
Thanks for that!
Andrew.

Looks like one of the gribblies off the cover of Jeff Wayne's musical
version of The War Of The Worlds to me.

Andrew,
Take a look in "povray.binaries.images", trawling around my hard drive I
found this little martian.
