Well, adding focal blur was probably a mistake, I just wanted to
try it out, The smoke is a bit too thick, neccessary to show up
against the background, which probably suggests I should change
the background.

However it does look nice and dirty.

total render time 23 hours or so on an older P3.

nope, I smoked lots of cigarettes doing this :-)

I think you need to increase the samples.
