Well, 2 days 'til the animation deadline and I'm still rendering! I just
modified my planet code to do a gas giant, for the background of one of my
scenes.
It looked nice so I rendered one frame at hi-res, and here it is. I'm trying to
keep things simple so that my animation doesn't take too long to render, which
is why this image took just 31 seconds to render!
Comments and criticisms are appreciated. :)

I should have mentioned what the things in the scene are: Basically the
spaceship on the left of the frame has met up with a fleet of space craft, which
are the things in the center of the picture. They're kinda hard to see from this
angle, but it's a fleet of craft heading towards us.
Then in the background you have a gas giant with some moons, and a granite sky
dome for the stars (I know crackle does better stars, but it doesn't draw as
quickly!).

Nice! Can't wait to see the animation.
Are you sure granite sky wont flicker during animation?

It depends on the scaling of it, I scaled it down for this hi-res shot, but I'm
using bigger stars in the animation to prevent flicker :)

Hey, this rocks! And with such a render time I'm really impressed!

Thanks, I needed that! :)
(I was suffering from a bit of animator's block)

Hey, I *like* this... The planet-thingy looks wonderful, and the spacecraft
are all so detailed... Brilliant!
Only possible critisism I can find is the rocket boosters: they seem to end
a tad abruptly. (Media in a cylinder, I presume?) Anyway, a minor critisism
for such a stunningly cool image!
Thanks.
Andrew.

Yeah, unfortunately I can't use more accurate media settings because I need low
render times. They look fine from other angles so I'm not worried about it.

Oh yeah - animation. OK, I'm brain-dead from too much Active Directory right
now... heh...
Thanks.
Andrew.
