This is only my second (maybe 3rd) full picture, so I'm very
much still learning (and appreciating the joys of other peoples
macros :-).

Most of this, bar the rocks which are noisy isosurfaces, is various
macros from the net.

It's meant to be a hominid meeting some alien entity in our prehistory,
not sure if that comes across.

Anyway, I like the hard shadows and lack of caustics: deliberately
avoiding photons, radiosity and area lights means even a big 1280x980
renders in under an hour. And I like the idea of a big sphere floating
above a plane :-)

I'm not sure if you intended for this, but the colours as well as the lack 
of radiosity make the scene look somewhat "plasticy".

Definitely interesting - and WAY better than my first image (a red sphere on
a black background). In fact, better than _any_ POV-Ray image I've ever
made - but then, I just suck...

Attempting to drag my random rambling back on topic... It's certainly a very
vivid image, and I think you're right, the hard shaddows do give it a kinda
nice contrasting texture. Not sure about the shade of yellow for the ground,
but other than that...

Yes, it's supposed to look like sand, but needs more work on the texture,
I'll try and improve on that today. The green in the distance isn't right
either.
But what really sucks is the figures.
I can just about get away with it by keeping them at a distance, and
only showing the main one in reflection, but in close-up they look like
inflateable dummies.

I tried with radiosity and dropping the ambient, but I couldn't
honestly say it made that much difference, except to the render
time. I'm going to do a bit of work on the ground texture today,
maybe that'll help.
