Moved the tree in front of the wall (thanks Jim and Ben), corrected the colour
of the sky (thanks Gilles), which also now fades a bit towards the horizon, and
added 3 layers of grass.

I might do some work on proper clouds (these are cheap 'n' cheerfull), and I'd
like to play some more with the stone texture, but I'm basically happy.

Scene-files posted to binaries.scene-files (duh...)

I'm rendering a large version tonight which I'll put up on my website...

The tree looks much better in front of the wall. good choice. i think a
little color variation in textures on the rock wall would go a long way.
just some subtle changes.

I think the texture of the tree needs some work. And you may add some small
items - stones, other flowers/plants.

 I like it! I really do. And I was going to ask about what looks like a
bozo'ed sky sphere for clouds, but I won't because its subtlety plays very
nicely into the image.

 The textures and "algorithmic detail" is great!

I love this image.  Its quite nice... but...

Something struck me as "not right" (if there is such a thing in art).

The tree seems to have large branches that have either been pruned hard or
are deformed and end suddenly.  Seems to go from a nice, chunky large to
extremely thin too quickly.

Also the base of the tree seems to enter the earth abruptly and have no
signs of roots or anything.  Mind you some peices of taller grass around the
base might help?

Where I grew up, we had an oak tree that was dead for 2 years, and then one
day it started growing again.  That was about 20 years ago, and it's still
alive.  Many of the old limbs never came back to life, and eventually fell
off, so only the newer, younger, thinner branches had leaves.

Anyway, this tree gives me the same impression.  To further that effect, you
could enforce the idea that only one side of the tree is still living, and
the other side is decaying.  It looks like perhaps it got hit by lightning,
or perhaps a wind-storm knocked off the top.  Making the large rounded
branch and trunk portions more jagged may enhance that idea.  Of course,
that probably wouldn't be the easiest thing to do...

I think that looks great!  Besides the modelling of the tree and wall I 
particularily like the harmony of greens, blue, and greys.  You have 
some interesting stuff going on with that wall macro.  It really comes 
into its own now that it plays harmony to the trees melody.

OK, yeah, this is a definite improvement!

It looks great. I mean, it looked great before, but now it's greater!

The stone wall is definitely much better - it looked "wrong" before. The
leaves don't hide the whole tree any more... The clouds are kinda subtle...
not sure whether more "realistic" ones would look worse or better...

Only a few real problems I can point out...
 * As someone else said, the trunk meets the ground instead of "growing out
of the ground".
  * The large low branch on the right looks like it should have
cross-section showing at the end - like it's snapped off.
  * Not sure about the bark - the patches are good, but there might just be
a few too many of them.
 * The stone wall is much better - better shape and better colouring - but I
think particularly in the shade of the tree it looks a bit like clay. (Maybe
it's just this LCD I'm viewing it on though!)

Keep 'em comming!!!
