My attempt at creating a stage-like scene. I plan to use it to test out
lightning ideas without having to set up the trees, plug the lights in, etc.

Some weird artifacts show up around the bottom. If I turn off the media,
they go away. The artifacts seem to occur around the edges of the
projection of the spotlights. (You can't see them for the blue light
because they're below the bottom of the screen.)

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Not exactly. It could be a 'intervals' thing, you didn't say what the media
statement is or which method type is being used. If you add intervals 3 it
might help, other than that it could just be too low samples. Both these
things would usually show some kind of trouble with the main parts of the
lights. Are the two spheres used as 'looks_like' in the spotlights?

Actually, I am using intervals 20 for super-high quality in the final
render. Yes, the spheres are looks_like. I am using method 1:

#if (Media)
media {
        intervals 20
        scattering { 1, rgb 0.1 }
        density {
                bozo
                scale 3
                density_map {
                        [0 rgb 0.3]
                        [0.2 rgb 1]
                        [0.4 rgb 0.3]
                        [0.6 rgb 1]
                        [0.8 rgb 0.3]
                        [1 rgb 1]
                }
        }
}
#end

Also, I'm not sure if I'm using density_map correctly... am I?

Yes, your density map is fine. I tried duplicating what your scene is and I
get the same thing happening. Spotlights pointing away from the camera and a
speckled arc occurs about where I'd guess the edge limit for the spotlight
is at, that being the falloff. Or radius, if both are equal.

I thought this must be due to infinite media but I also used a box for
container and it still does it, even if intervals and samples are fairly
high, like around 50 to 150. It's also not due to multiple spotlights or the
looks_like statement... not method type either. So I'm at a loss to explain
it.

Hmm... yes, I use a bounding box as well. Any POV-Ray
expert-guru-master-people have an answer?
