This is a cropped section of the whole render (I didn't want you to be
distracted). In this section of the render, I'm looking for a dirty,
sleazy, run-down, bad-part-of-town kind of feel. Please comment...

The blur is a little bit disturbing and the pavement isn't very dirty,
but overall you have a great start.

I agree, the parking lot needs more puke stains and the like.

The door and windows capture the look well. You might dirty up the
pavement and walls a little, and maybe add a piece of litter or something.

One thing does puzzle me: why does it look so foggy under the light? I'm
guessing that it's supposed to be early morning and the sky is
contributing a fair amount of light; if so, I wouldn't expect artificial
lights to affect the scene much. I'd suggest either dimming the
artificial lights or dimming the sky.

Put some crumpled up newspapers, cigarette butts, etc randomly on the
ground.

Looks good so far. I would suggest decreasing the camera angle to focus the
attention on a person's "field of attention" rather than his field of view.
Alternately, you could make this an evening shot with dim sunlight and a
strong light coming from the bar. Or, you could cover more of the background
with the bases of large buildings to decrease the impact of each large
building.

I would move the skyscrapers further away and construct some abandoned
factories, warehouses around the bar to give the feeling of abandonment and
isolation from the civilized world. Perhaps a freeway overpass between the
seedy and prosperous areas visible in the scene.

Also, give the bar a tiny parking lot, not the large one it has now. Build a
street in the foreground, and place the bar very close to it in order to
give a more cramped feel like in a true sh!thole.
