Tiles will be smaller (twice as small <--> tilesurface *= .25 <--> amount of
tiles *= 4), but then the parsing process will need lots of time.

Why not render a section of tiles from above and use the resulting render as
an image map & bump map, i think as your making them smaller anyhow you wont
notice the difference
if you not 100% happy with the results you can always swap back to csg floor
for the final render

I think that's a good idea! And I have another idea: I could easily convert
the floor part into a piece of perl-script that write a (huge?) include file
that parses faster than this extremely nested set of macros.
