Hi

The idea for this image came from a screenshot from the 'Siberia' game I saw
on the web. Still a lot of work to do, but I thought I would show it so far.
Grass is from Gilles and the trees were made in arboretum. Really needs a
much moodier atmosphere (it will probably be a lot darker and foggier), a
path around the main stone and lots of other things.

Comments and criticisms welcome.

Kev

The scene looks nice. Some crand might actually look pretty good in the
stone textures though. The orientation of the graves isn't like I'd expect
to see anywhere, not being aligned with the building or each other. Is there
a large circular area on the ground centered on that monument?

The Grass in the forground has white showing. Changing the groung plain to
green or brown would help. There is also a slight error in the Celtic Cross
form. the 4 holes should entrude into the vertical as well as the
horizontal. Very nice image though. I hope to see the finished product.

Very nice, I know exactly the scene in Syberia this comes from.

I really like the softness of this picture. the grass
looks a bit too regular. I like the colors. Some grass
is growing through the headstone on the lower left.
Seems like the headstones are a bit too smooth.
Nice picture!

The trees look excellent. I've not heard of arboretum before; I mostly
see people using the Maketree macro. Can you say something about how
you created the trees?

Thanks. The stone textures are not final and there will be a few more dotted
around as well and the only textures I have worked on are the wall ones.
The main monument is actually aligned with the building although the
perspective doesn't show that at the moment, when I add a path it should be
a bit clearer.
There is a circular area centred on the monument which will be stone and the
grass needs to be cut back.. now where did I put that scythe....

The white should be a path which I haven't worked on yet and the grass will
be cut back to show it. Thanks for the point about the cross, I forgot to
translate them properly. I hope I can finish it.

I think the softness mainly comes from radiosity, area_light and the fact
that I rendered at 1600*1200 with high aa settings and then downsized it
which made it very soft. The headstones and need texturing and there will
be more of them and the grass is just a test and will need cutting back in
places.

Thanks

Arboretum is a free addon to the shareware package Forester. An evaulation
version of Forester and Arboretum can be downloaded from
http://www.dartnall.f9.co.uk but to export to POV you will need to purchase
the full product at $35, the actual trees in this image were based on the
example files which can also be downloaded from that site.

The main advantage of these trees over those from Gilles' Maketree macro are
that these are mesh{} objects and can therefor be duplicated with only a
slight increse in memory consumption. It is possible to modify the maketree
code to also export meshes but I'm lazy...:)
