This is the final version. Thanks to everyone for your helpful comments. I
know there is still room for further improvement, but I'm happy enough with
how the secene looks now and would like to start a new project. As
requested, the picture has a resolution of 1024x768. The original render has
a size of 1280x960 and took approx. 33 hours to render on my 1.7 GHz P4.
Credits: The trees are Oak trees made with Forester Arboretrum available at
http://www.dartnall.f9.co.uk/. The terrain is one of the river sample
terrains coming with World Machine.
Regards, Christoph

Very very beautiful. Great image Christoph.

He, he; thanks for remembering it (it's my new wallpaper now)

If you get that from Mick regarding a landscape, then you must have
really outdone yourself... and so you have! Outstanding work!
I don't know what you did to the water, but it looks great. The parts
that were disturbing me the most - near the shore - are now the best,
because of the reflections of the trees. All in all, worthy of being
my wallpaper :)

Breathtaking. My wallpaper also.
By the way, did you post the source for this? I want to examine it. =)

I absolutely love it! I want to render something with that much plant
life... But $35 just for tree modelling... :\
