Hi,
This is my first image made with POV-Ray. Modeling was made with Blender.
Render time ~ 3.5h on my old 500 MHz machine. I used area lights and high
quality radiosity.
Hints & comments are welcome!
Regards,
Andreas

Its not a sphere, I see no reflections and find the lack of chequered plane
disturbing.
Please refrain from posting good looking, well lit first pov images that so
obviously fail to contain all of the required elements.

This is nice. The thing that looks strange to me is the size of the light
spot coming from the window (that must be a *huge* window, and pretty high
off the floor too). An area_light may help improve it too, especially if
that's supposed to be sunlight.
Nice floor texture. Why are the pictures on the floor?

The first paragraph of the yet unwritten law for raytracing
folks says:
Your first image has to be a reflective sphere hovering
over a checkered plane.
In some rare cases also a glass sphere is acceptable.

Ah yes I remember now, I believe I have followed this law (about 10
years ago) and yes I am pretty sure all newbies must past this ultimate
"I got the prog, now what, lets take the sample scene and play with it"

Just my 2 cents but maybe a little atmospheric media would be really cool
(but on a 500 mhz machine maybe too long).

My very first was a gelatinous-looking torus with blue sphere in the center,
set against a ugly brownish-orangish-yellowish highly turbulent bozo
patterned plane; which I believe was copied from another file by Dan Farmer
or one of those other pioneering POVers' renderings I had seen. I don't
remember now. It took me a while to try the reflective sphere over checkered
plane.
As to this rendering... it seems fairly washed out to me. That might have
been the intention, but were it me doing it radiosity brightness could be
less or lower diffuse. It's a nice scene anyway, especially for a "1st".
