Marc Champagne posted days ago a beautiful image of some prisms like in Pink
Floyd album "Dark Side of the Moon".
I'm a big fan of Pink Floyd and I think "Wish you were here" is the best
work in Pink Floyd history.
This is a first wip trying to recreate its logo.
Background is made with Corel Draw and unfinished (must change the curved
text to fit right and end the low right corner) but I wanted to have a first
impression of the scene.
Everything else is CSG.
Any suggestions about a better texture for the metallic hand are very
welcome.

This isn't about your image, but the song - did you know that the guitar
solo inbetween the two sections of lyrics is actually a verse of lyrics
itself? It's nearly impossible to make it out, but there's one place towards
the end of the solo where the guitar plays four notes in a row, and if you
listen carefuly you can hear the words "when we break up" in the notes.
I only know this because someone told me who had heard from someone else who
had a live recording of the song where it was easier to hear. I don't know
what the guitar actually *says* beyond those four words.

I like... both the album and your logo WIP.
Looking at the record I have here the label isn't like this and I thought it
was going to be when I went to check. Has two metallic robotic hands I
guess. Maybe I have a different label from other albums, I think I bought
this in the late 70's or early 80's. It's green, black, white, bit of yellow
too and it looks something like a line drawing or vector graphic.
Ah ha, I did a little researching. There were stickers put on covers and
lots of variation in the album art. One I saw was even printed on the cover.

I never knew there were so many changes done to album releases.
One picture (printed cover one I think) has prongs or something at the back
of the metal hand, like some sort of connector. I'm not sure the marbling of
your lucite-like hand is a good thing or bad thing. I like the look but it's
also distracting with the kind of shattered appearance it has. Well, just
not like any of the WYWH logos I guess is why I say that.
You asked about metal texture suggestions, reflection with some sort of
surrounding environment might what it needs.

Thanks, glad you like 'em ;-).

Well, I have the spanish edition from 1975 (distributed by EMI-Odeon).
The logo here is also line drawing, but the hand on the left side is
something
like crystal or quartz (at least is something translucid 'cos you can see
some background zones) and the other one is metallic.
The hands in the inner circle of the vinil (?) are both the metallic ones,
but
my WIP is only for the sleeve logo.

Thanks for the link, I never supposse there were so many different sleeves
designs for the same albums.

It seems like cylinders, but maybe they are also "speed lines", to show that
the metallic hand is moving to catch the quartz one (I can see some long and
thin boxes in the fingers also).

It was the first try with a semitransparent texture with a marble color_map.
Maybe I have to scale it a bit, or maybe I'll end making it crystal.
This scene will never be as any of the logos we know.
I fear is almost impossible to make the same perspective (perhaps with
a matrix transformation and an orthographic camera, but I do not know
anything about matrices) 'cos it's line drawing and I'm not able to obtain
it.
I had an attempt to make the same logo when I was beggining with 3D,
using Simply3D (version 1.0!!!) back in 1997.
The image is at

just if you are curious.

I'm gonna try it (maybe the same trick as in "surfing with the silver
surfer"
posted weeks ago).
Thanks for your comments.

Well, WYWH is one of the songs of my paticular Top 10. I've heard it a
lot of times (and played it even more).
Past year, a friend of mine gave a copy of a live recording of the WYWH
tour ("Echoes in the garden" 1975).
I'll tell you if I discover those "hidden lyrics".

Couldn't get in to the URL you gave, request denied.
Yep, the record label itself is the only such "logo" I have of that here, it
isn't on the cover anyplace, and isn't on the record sleeve. That
discography web page suggests I have the 6th issue if I judge by the numbers
written on the vinyl itself, but I apparently have the thin paper sleve of
the 7th issue. So there are even more variations than they know of there.
You're right about trying to get an exact duplicate of it made, that would
take some clever tricks, or skill anyway, in 3D form to do what a 2D artist
had done.

Sorry, here works fine. The image goes at the end (don't be too hard,
it was my first work in 3D...)

Well, the logo I am trying to make is the little one, taken from
the site of Storm Thorgerson, one of the members of Hipgnosis,
http://www.stormthorgerson.co.uk/#
the designers of some Pink Floyd covers (and Peter Gabriel, and...)
In my WYWH album, it comes as a sticker glued to the front cover,
in the left upper corner.
I've always liked this image.

The original is obviously a 2D work. Storm says in its page:
"Airbrushed black outline axonometric illustration by George
Hardie for sticker on front black shrinkwrap of vinyl representing
the four elements (air, fire, earth and water) used in cover design
and echoing handshake of the burning man"
What else can be said?
