Pretty soon, I should have a library of components so the technophile can
render a circuit board before he etches it. I am looking at making a program
that can read in the source files for circuit board traces and board layout,
bill of material, etc. and convert it into a finished rendering.
Of course, that will take a lot of time, but it is a nice goal. Here is a
test render with some of the models I have created over the last couple of days.
Comments? Criticisms? Oh, ignore the clouds- they are intentionally "tacky".
Cheers!

I like, the LEDs are great, but I don't recall ICs being so reflective.
Other than that, cool idea, and can't wait to see the finished result.

The reflectivity varies. I have several ICs here that match the one shown
and some that have totally matt finish properties. What I want to know is
how Chip plans on powering the circuit without power leads coming from the
PC board.

I made some stuff a while back that you're welcome to use (if it's good
enough, that is)...
Have a look at http://www.sunmaster.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/povray under
projects and objects...

And I've placed the inc's and some sample scenes in p.b.s-f, as they're not
so easy to get from the web site

Great idea. Looks promising. Resistors maybe a little too silky, but
for a "I wonder what it'll look like?", and "do all components have
enough room?" render it would be usefull.
Be advised that you will have a serious problem with your components
if my experience is anything to go by. I started my component
collection in Pov 2 and seem to have spent the rest of my life
updating and adding to it for 3.0 and then 3.1 and now its very messy
:( You will find, like jigsaw puzzles, that there's always a
component missing ;)

The geometries look very good, burt the materials could be improved.
I'm looking forward to some old electron tubes... ;-)

Well, funny you ask about tubes, but somebody else brought that up too.
Here is a "from memory" rendition, but it isn't anywhere near ready. Still, it
can be done fairly easily.
Cheers!

I will be putting wiring in soon. But of course, then I should use animated
GIFs so we can flash the LEDs, watch the batteries run down...
Cheers!

Thanks- I downloaded your electrolytic capacitors file to have a look at it.
I have modeled some already, but not yet finished up the labeling. Hey, I like
your protoboards!
Cheers!
