Thought it would be fun to post an image that I was fiddling with last
night and see if anyone has any suggestions or comments on how I

This is a very nice setup! Very good looking! I suppose the cups are
entirely smooth and the bumps are faked. This is usually a drawback but in
this case, my eyes are convinced it's real.

I can't find a suggestion for improvement... But will you develop the scene,
with a nice table and some liquid in the cups?

Thanks!  Yes, the bumps are a bozo pattern applied to the normal.
Is there a way to accomplish the same thing using isosurfaces?

You are right.  The ceramic pieces don't actually have much visual
interest in themselves, which is why I put together the apple image that
followed.
I've never really been able to get satisfying liquids (even after reading
Christoph's tutorial).  Maybe that should be my next challenge ...
